...fundamental problems of modern astronomy are connected with the origin and evolution of stars and galaxies," says Olin Eggen, director of Australia's Mount Stromlo Observatory. ...against Australia's Dame Pattie will not be picked until the final trials in August. So Mosbacher's mistake might soon be forgotten-were it not for the possibility that the loss could be the only one Intrepid will ever suffer. Skeptics who considered how Architect Olin Stephens could improve his design for Constellation-the boat that beat Eagle in the 1964 U.S. trials, then went on to wipe up Britain's Sovereign in four straight races-got their answer when Intrepid whipped Connie three times in a row by ever bigger margins...

An obvious advantage is weight; Stephens figures that he saved more than 60 Ibs. on the shorter bow alone. What's more, says Stephens, without the usual heavy fore and aft overhang, the short-ended Intrepid will be less prone to lose speed by hobbyhorsing...

Sales, said President Gordon Grand, were $284 million, or 11% higher than last year, because of "strong contributions from agricultural chemicals, copper-base alloys, Winchester-Western, Olinkraft forest products and from our Squibb division...
