...wife of a federal judge asked him to check what her husband was doing while traveling to hear cases. She had the names of the two credit cards he used -enough for Beltrante's sources in the credit card companies to report on the errant judge's one-night stands. Trailing His Honor on a trip, one of Beltrante's agents watched him pick up young men. Later, Beltrante presented the distraught wife with photos of her husband doing just that...
Some enchanted evening, they always said, Mary Martin and Ethel Merman would appear together in a two-woman show on Broadway. And so it finally happened in a one-night benefit replete with hoops and hoopla and costumes from South Pacific, Gypsy and, of course, Hello, Dolly! Briefly joining the high jinks onstage were the likes of Yul Brynner, Burgess Meredith, Joel Grey and Geoffrey Holder-who kicked up their heels in an all-male chorus line. When it was over, Ethel, 68, sighed, "Fm on Cloud Nine," and Mary. 63, was still savoring the roars of the audience...
Malibu is not real, however, because there is no checkout time. Rock musicians live in baggage-claim areas and hotel suites. It is filled with a blend of heartwarming innocence and sweet-spirited childishness, with which he tries to freshen the air when all this plotting gets too thick. But since his story includes, among other misadventures, a one-night stand for each of his protagonists, an unwanted pregnancy and consequent flirtation with abortion, not to mention such urban delights as an attempted mugging, sudden death in the indifferent streets and a racist cab driver (Irwin Corey, working hard) whom Gardner tries desperately to make...
...One-Night Stands. In the newly released book The Church and the Homosexual (Sheed Andrews and Mc-Meel), McNeill finds those teachings an intolerable burden. The Catholic Church advocates that a homosexual should try to become heterosexual and, if he fails, insists that he abstain from sex entirely because no homosexual act can be justified morally. McNeill maintains that such teaching results in "one-night stands" and "suffering, guilt and mental disorder." Instead, McNeill thinks the church should encourage "a mature homosexual relationship with one partner with the intention of fidelity," though he does not call this marriage...
