...most interesting and important of these observations was held last night, when the planet reached the same point in its loopshaped orbit at which it was previously observed by Professor Wendell. The atmosphere was fairly clear and several views were taken, but their value is not yet assured. By a comparison of the two sets of photographs, however, obtained under similar conditions is hoped that the path, size and distance of the planet from the earth may be much more accurately determined than would have otherwise been possible. The collection of astronomical pictures from which to determine this final data...
...meteors were counted, of which forty-three were Leonids, that is, had a path radiating from Leo. A watch was kept last night and will probably be kept tonight for the fourth and last time. However, it is hardly expected that there will be a shower, as the orbit of the Leonids is too far from the earth--about one and three quarters million miles. Moreover, the number of Leonids seen has decreased since 1898; less were counted last year than then, and less this year than last...
...stars of the eighth magnitude will appear. The existence of a small intermercurial planet is possible and it will probably appear on the plates if it exists. If other astronomers can be induced to make similar observation sin Spain or Algiers, it will be possible to compute the approximate orbit and the distance of the body from...
Experiments are now being conducted at the Observatory preparatory to observing the total eclipse which will occur on May 28. The eclipse will be visible in Georgia, where a temporary station will be secured, and photographs of the eclipse, surrounding stars, and any planets revolving inside the orbit of Mercury will be taken under the direction of Professor W. H. Pickering. The sun will be obscured for one minute and a half, and it is hoped that during this time a new planet may be discovered. Pictures of that part of the sky where the eclipse is to occur...
Professor William Pickering is now trying to find the orbit and the future position of Phoebe, the ninth satellite of Saturn, which was discovered last year at the Harvard Observatory. Thirteen photographs have been taken, which show the satellite...
