Yesterday afternoon the sophomore crew was out on the river and rowed short stretches down to the Union Boat Club and back. The crew was strengthened by the addition of F. L. Yesterday afternoon P. D. Rust '98 coached the freshman crew for about an hour and a half. The four bow men were changed during the practice, giving more men the opportunity of rowing in the eight-oared barge. ...Harvard set the pace for the first half mile, doing it in 2m. 35s. and at the three-quarter mark was neck and neck with Orton. Orton proved the better man, and won by about 20 yards in 4m. 52 3/5s. Harvard won the race, 14 to 22. Because of his withdrawal from the crew the order of the men was again changed, Captain Bullard going in at seven, and Hayes and Duffield rowing at five.
