...Fresh Pond to Belmont Station, thence towards Watertown and return by way of Mt. Auburn. The break was made near the Lowell Mansion on Brattle street. The run, between Blakemore, Grant and Putnam, towards the end, proved to be very exciting. These three men finished in the above order and succeeded in beating the hares by about three minutes. The account also failed to do justice to the work of the Harvard ends, Cochrane and Richardson, which was of a high order, and constantly stopped the gains of the opposing team. Other inaccuracies in the account showed an ignorance of the personnel of the Harvard players on the part of the writer, if it did not exhibit a bias against them.
