...QUESTION of the legitimacy of those who would re-examine current policies-this series of adhoc committees-is particularly vital. In order that each committee's report should meet with the widest possible acceptance among all interested parties-the Faculty and students alike-each committee should be elected and include representatives of the distinct constituencies within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The four constituencies which should be represented are: the Faculty, teaching fellows (a bridge group between Faculty and students), graduate students who are not teaching fellows, and undergraduates...
...about a team rated seventh worst among major college squads? Last year. Lafayette crushed Columbia and Marty Domres, 36-14. Lafayette is better than last year. and Columbia, girl cheerleaders and all is worse. This is a battle between the Lions and the Leopards, and I'm afraid the order of the jungle will have to be forgotten. Besides, my brother plays the drums for Lafayette. Leopards...
...thank Mr. Brookstein for his counsel, but I don't share his faith. He is of course correct in saying that the discoveries of social science are knowledge, not implements. But certain implements are required in order to bring knowledge to bear on the real world, and these implements are not so widely distributed as telephones or even as the technology to be developed in the Cambridge project. It is possible, even if unlikely, that the Panthers or the "radical studentry" could learn just as much as the U.S. government from, for example, MIT Professor Ithiel de Sola Pool...

At Boeing, officials promised that once the engine problem is solved, deliveries of the planes will be accelerated in order to catch lip quickly with the original schedule. Thus Pan Am, which had hoped to have its 747s in service more than a month before competitors, will probably lose some of that advantage. The airline now does not expect to begin scheduled flights until late January. TWA, which had planned to fly passengers in its giant jets in early 1970, should be only...
Avoiding Muscle. The Nixon Administration earlier this year began requiring contractors in Philadelphia to present detailed plans for hiring Negroes in order to qualify to bid on federal construction projects. George Meany and many contractors argue that the "Philadelphia Plan" amounts to a racial-quota system barred by the 1964 Civil Rights Act. In response to an inquiry from Arkansas Senator John McClellan, U.S. Comptroller General Elmer Staats recently held that the plan is illegal. The Labor Department, backed by a contrary opinion from Attorney General John Mitchell, is pushing ahead anyway. It expects to extend the plan to federal...
