...commercial attention, while their previous one, Be Here Now, couldn't have been less noticed if it had sank into the pool featured on its cover. Reports of temper tantrums on this current tour hardly improved my expectations as I walked by hordes of ticket scalpers into the Orpheum...

Just before the encore, the band broke into more anthems than the band at the Olympics: "Wonderwall," "Cigarettes and Alcohol," "Don't Look Back in Anger," and perhaps their finest song, "Live Forever." There was something about hearing a packed Orpheum all sing out the climactic line of "Live Forever." Grown men hugging. Quibbles, can, of course, be found: where was "Champagne Supernova"? Where was "Some Might Say"? But then, who knew Oasis had so many songs that I would miss hearing...

...ceremony, Dave Holmes implored them "Please, people, support your local music scene." These words would perhaps have rung a little more true had they not been uttered by a spearhead for mainstream music at its finest. As music fans and professionals poured out of the Orpheum and made their way to the Park Street Red Line stop across the street, these words certainly appeared to have little resonance. Boston music fans walked past the man on the platform with the open guitar case bidding them "Welcome to Acousticland" with their ears (and wallets) closed, as they indifferently awaited the approach...
