From Oyster Bay, Long Island, to Oslo, Norway, sailed the Lanai, a boat six metres (not quite 20 ft.) long, frail as an egg. It sailed in the hold of an ocean liner and when, in Oslo, Owner Herman Whiton saw its burlap wrappings undone and the racing sails taken out of their boxes, his boat was as dry as when it started.
