KENNEDY ASSASSINATION. The commission dismissed recurring theories that the CIA was somehow involved in the assassination of President John Kennedy. The report rejects as "farfetched speculation" the claim that the agency had connections with either Assassin Lee Harvey Oswald or Nightclub Owner Jack Ruby, who killed Oswald two days after Kennedy's death. Similarly the commission dismantled the theory that E. Howard Hunt and Frank Sturgis, a sometime CIA informer, had participated in the assassination. As evidence, proponents have cited newsmen's photographs of three men taken into custody by Dallas police after the assassination...
Although it could not reassess all of the monumental Kennedy assassination evidence, the panel agreed with the Warren Commission that Oswald had acted alone. Some critics have claimed that two bystanders' movies of the assassination recorded the indistinct images of other gunmen on a grassy knoll near where Kennedy was shot. But the Rockefeller commission found that the vague shapes were "merely the momentary image produced by sunlight, shadows and leaves...
...Rockefeller Commission also looked into the recurring speculation that Castro had tried to gain revenge for the CIA's attempts on his life by using Lee Harvey Oswald to kill John F. Kennedy. ...Died. Oswald G. Nelson, 68, the "Ozzie" of Ozzie and Harriet; eight months after surgery for liver cancer; in Hollywood. Crewcut, relentlessly wholesome Ozzie Nelson was the archetypal all-American boy. Born in Jersey City, he became the nation's youngest-ever Eagle Scout at 13, starred as a quarterback at Rutgers and worked his way through law school by moonlighting as a bandleader. In 1935 he married his comely singer-emcee Harriet Hilliard; in their radio adventures, which began in 1944, he was the cheerful, slightly bemused pipe-and-slippers family man, she the sweetly understanding helpmate steering...
...world knows Sir Oswald Mosley best at his worst-as the leader of the Union of British Fascists, who, flanked by black-shirted Biff Boys in the 1930s, praised Mussolini and Hitler and parroted their antiSemitism. But in fact, Mosley, now 78, has mesmerized, enraged and even amused generations of Englishmen, first as a Conservative M.P., then as an Independent Liberal, a Socialist Laborite, a Fascist isolationist and, finally, as a postwar internationalist preaching European unity. As the sixth in a line of Yorkshire baronets, Mosley frequently wore his own black shirt under a Savile Row suit...
