...called satisfactory, for in three innings, with two out and a man on third base, the batter failed to advance the runner. Bunting, too, was deplorably weak. The fielding was fast, with the exception of two inexcusable fumbles of grounders by Carr, and the muff of an easy outfield fly by H. Kernan. Coburn showed great unsteadiness in his pitching, letting up noticeably after the first inning and giving six bases on balls. Stillman, who replaced him in the last three innings, proved no steadier. R. Kernan caught well, and threw to bases with accuracy, catching one man at second...

...batting the men show a little better form, but still have a tendency to knock fly balls, and have not yet learned to time the ball well. Their bunting is fair. The fielding of the infield is marked by carelessness and the throwing is very inaccurate. In the outfield a little improvement is shown in judging fly balls and in getting throws off. R. J. Leonard has been elected captain...

Although the fielding of the Freshmen, especially in the outfield, showed improvement in starting and in judging the ball and their headwork and throwing were better, yet in other respects the game was discouraging, as the batting was still weak and the bunting not so good as in practice. The baserunning, also, was poor and team-work was conspicuously lacking. Individually the Andover team was good but the men did not play well together...

Matthews began the scoring for the home team, in the first inning, with a home run. In the fourth, Randall made a base hit and was advanced to the plate by the three-brace hit by Clarkson, who scored in turn on Stillman's fly to the outfield. Daly reached first on a base hit, and R. P. Kernan made an easy infield hit, which was thrown wild, scoring Daly, and advancing Kernan to third. Carr then received a base on balls, when a well-executed double steal brought Kernan home, and advanced Carr to second. An error by Watson...

...allowed Clarkson to score another run. In the fifth inning Randall received a base on balls, and Coolidge bunted, but reached first on a fielder's choice. A well executed double steal then brought in Randall and advanced Coolidge to second. Matthews's long hit to the outfield, which was missed by Field, brought in Coolidge, and allowed Matthews also to score. R. Kernan added another run in the next inning, when, after receiving a base on balls, he was advanced to third by Story's hit, and scored on Coolidge's fly to the outfield. In this inning Amherst...
