HOPEFUL COLUMBIA.-Our outlook for the race against Harvard next June is very promising. We have only lost two men from last year's 'Varsity crew, the other six remaining in college. Sixteen are candidates, of whom ten are now working in the gymnasium under Captain Meikleham, the other six will come in right after Christmas, and then it is expected that several more candidates will present themselves, both from the School of Medicine and from the Law School. All the men who played on the twelve last spring in the intercollegiate matches are still studying here, either as undergraduates or law men, and with one exception have signified their intention of trying for places on the team for '85. ...Wesleyan. This makes a record of three victories, over weak teams, and two defeats out of a total of five games. Harvard has not stood so low in foot ball since the students here first gained a complete familiarity with the Rugby game. This is certainly an apparently dismal outlook; but we do hope that every effort will be made to offset the bad effect of these defeats by victories in the future. As for the game on Saturday, we prefer not to make any editorial comment on it until all the aspects of the case have been looked into...
