...first crews of the three Freshman dormitories took the water yesterday for a short work-out. The other candidates had try-outs on the machines. There is good material in the present squad and a promising outlook for the success of the autumn rowing. Standish Hall, however, has been short of oarsmen. Autumn rowing offers the peculiar advantage of giving its followers the use of the river immediately and the men who come out now get a very good start for future work. With a squad of nearly twenty men out since last Monday, the outlook for the cross-country team this fall is very bright. Of the University runners who competed in meets last year Captain R. T. Twitchell '16, K. E. Fuller '16, W. Edgar '16 A. R. Bancroft '17 and H. R. Bechtel '17 are out this week in the daily practices, which have usually consisted of a two or three mile walk every morning and about a two-mile run outside around the Stadium in the afternoon.
