Chartered Flights. Deltona, headed by Miami's big-building Mackle brothers, also has a flourishing outpost in Hong Kong. Last year it sold more than $1,000,000 worth of land, mostly to Chinese investors. Operating on a still larger scale is Miami's General Development Corp., whose chairman is Charles Kellstadt, ex-chief of Sears, Roebuck, and among whose major stockholders is Publisher Gardner Cowles. It reports $4,000,000-a-year sales of Florida realty to investment-minded Europeans and Latin Americans. The firm sometimes charters flights for foreign prospects, who get a $125 discount...
Brave begins arrestingly with a Japanese narrator, Lieut. Kuroki (Tatsuya Mihashi), who, rrring all his Is, describes the "roneriness of command" over a pocket of troops marooned on a Pacific island outpost. Soon an air battle sends a tiny C-47 transport plowing into the island's toy palms, and out of the special effects a story line emerges. Two enemy bands exist side by side, Japanese and American. Their recommendation to Washington: strike back. A few hours later, when Westmoreland inspected the damage at Pleiku and flew to a field hospital where...
...Viet Cong, swelled by 600 North Vietnamese regulars now being infiltrated monthly, may be trying to chew up government reserve battalions while testing their own ability to fight sustained actions. The Reds are also striking ever closer to major cities. Last week two Viet Cong companies attacked a government outpost eight miles south of Saigon, killed a U.S. Army lieutenant. Another Communist force opened fire on a squad of troops in broad daylight only four miles from Hué, one of South Viet Nam's largest cities, but speedy government reinforcements killed 57 fleeing Reds...
...Would Die. There was always the chance that the rebels were bluffing. But a battalion of 600 crack Belgian paratroopers was loaded aboard U.S. C-130 turboprop transports at Belgium's Diest airbase, flown to a little-used U.S. military base on Ascension Island, a British outpost in the South Atlantic only six air hours from Stanleyville. If necessary for humanitarian reasons, the Belgian government later announced, the paratroopers would be dropped on Stanleyville...
