...unhappy with the glacial pace with which first the DOE and now the Justice Department have pursued their parallel investigations into the new-for-old and the daisy-chain swindles. Investigators for the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power are looking into the possibility that there might have been outright collusion between some of the probers and the probed, even though oilmen argue that the delays were probably caused by DOE understaffing and inefficiency. Says Michael Barrett, a subcommittee counsel: "Some of these cases were ready to go two years ago, and we certainly intend to look at the practices...
Borg scored five aces and 19 outright winners on his whistling serve; Connors was able to break service but once in twelve games. With Connors rocked back on his heels by the Swede's boomers, Borg, who normally takes root at the baseline and whittles away with topspin ground-strokes, moved to the net to volley Jimmy's returns. Until recently, the sight of Borg at the net was as rare as, say, a display of good manners by Ilie Nastase. But Borg charged to the front court frequently and effectively in his semifinal with The Netherlands...
While Fidel Castro has his own reasons for sending Cubans to Africa, he could not do so without huge and constant transfusions of Soviet aid. Western experts estimate that Russia now pumps the equivalent of about $6 million a day into Cuba. That figure includes outright grants, subsidies and technical aid. The U.S.S.R. sells Cuba 190,000 bbl. of oil per day at about half the world price and buys 3.5 million tons per year of Cuban sugar at four times the world price (currently 7? per lb.), paying partly with what Cuba needs most: hard currency...

But the Graham operation is so large and visible that there has always been intense curiosity about its finances. Lately that curiosity has deepened into outright suspicion, and to clear the air Graham's Minneapolis headquarters has issued its first full public report on finances...
Since productivity is a key indicator of a nation's economic vigor, the figures issued last week by the Labor Department made sober reading. According to the study, 25 of 66 major industrial groups showed outright declines in the hourly output of their workers in 1977. As a whole, the rate of rise in productivity in the manufacturing sector slowed markedly last year to only 2.2%, vs. 6.8% in 1976. The biggest drops were in clay-working (down 7.4%), grain-milling (7.1%) and footwear (4.3%) industries. Productivity in the coal industry fell...
