Throughout the movie, Stone cannot resist indulging his overt, slap-in-the-face style. Has this man never heard of subtlety? One of the many instances occurs when Mickey comes to save Mallory. The entire episode is packaged as a sitcom fully equipped with fake, plastic decor creating a surreal aura reinforced by track laughter. This seems acceptable enough. Yet Stone takes what could have been a clever idea and pretentiously exploits it beyond meaning. The modern-day knight arrives enrobed in his bloody butcher shop apron carrying 50 pounds of raw meat. In all likelihood U.S. forces would quickly take control of the handful of Haitian armored vehicles, planes, boats and guns. "The Haitians will be lucky to get 1,000 or 1,500 troops to respond," predicts Georges Fauriol, a Haitian expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies...
Things weren't quite so overt at that first executive board meeting, but Prabhu says people tossed the words "darlin'" and "honey" around. Prabhu says she now heard these terms as slurs. People also accused her of being a radical feminist. "Somehow," she says, "those became the ugliest words that you could toss at any woman...
