...worth it? "If you lined her up against the 10 best athletes in the NCAA, she doesn't overwhelm you with her muscles," says pro-basketball coach Nancy Lieberman-Cline. "But her mental capacity to play in the big games, to compete at the highest level--and never lose--is unique. Some people compete when it's convenient. Chamique steps up when her team needs her." In a Jordannaire display in January, she and her team put an end to the 54 home-game winning streak of archrival University of Connecticut--with Holdsclaw scoring 25 points even though debilitated...

...Silent Woman, used the controversy over the death and estate of the suicide poet Sylvia Plath to illuminate brilliantly these questions of authority, here the justice system becomes her battleground; lawyers dispute not over matters of law but something more beautiful and strange, the power of stories to overwhelm the truth. The lit-crit quibbling of this approach at times quickly becomes tedious. Still, these cerebral arguments pale beside Malcolm's acute character studies, little gems of quirk and nuance like an eccentric bolo tie on a dreary elderly gentleman that leavens the confusion of the story with humor...

Despite her obvious talent for the splashy, one could argue that Powell's gift best manifests itself in smaller, brocade-free dramas such as Hilary and Jackie. Powell's mod clothes never overwhelm the tale of the relationship between the impassioned cellist Jacqueline du Pre and her sister, but instead lend a keen visual intensity to the women's profound differences. The look stays with you--Powell's work, it seems, never fades to black...

...more years. The best I could deduce about his revenue impact is that it's on the order of $100 million a year. Clearly, Infinity's 161 radio stations and other assets (including radio jock Don Imus), with a total market value of about $19 billion, overwhelm Stern. Still, if my estimate is close, Stern has a hand in 5% of Infinity's $1.9 billion in annual revenue. That may not be "material" legally, but it's information an investor ought to be able to get. By the way, the prospectus neglects to warn of a possible hit on Infinity...
