...wrong. The first site that I tried, cyberrentals.com grouped rentals by region but had no map to tell me where such romantic-sounding places as Seal Cove or Owl's Head were. So I had to log on to mapblast.com to locate each one, then return to slogging through listings. My computer was choking under the strain. Another site, vacationspot.com let me zero in on cabins and cottages. I got 50 matches right off, but most of the rentals turned out to be closed for the winter--something I learned only after reading a lot of fine print. I tried...
...shocked and dismayed this morning when I opened my copy of The Crimson and didn't find a front-page expos on the Owl Club Holiday Dinner and Cruise (Editorial, Dec. 1). I was offended that none of our roommates or girlfriends were asked for comment, nor were any members called to express their opinion of the night's events. But then I came to my senses and asked myself, "Where is the news in the story of 100 people having a fun, safe time at Harvard?" The answer probably has something to do with why there was no story...
Perhaps Harvard hasn't done anything because so far the final clubs have been busy shooting themselves in the foot. The Owl Club, for instance, posted two disasters for its season: one when they missed their "booze cruise" due to scheduling mishaps and then, more seriously, when graduate members closed the club to them on the night of their final initiation party. Harvard seems to be content to watch the clubs spin their own web of destruction as they alienate their graduate members, thus destroying an important part of their mission--to be an old boys' network for their members...
Letters from home arrive at school by post--owl post, that is, flying into the Great Hall every morning...
