...relax with a fine lunch or dinner with a view of the port. On the main square, try Puny or the Taverna del Marinaio (the Sailor's Tavern). While both offer excellent fish, Puny takes no credit cards, and the Taverna del Marinaio may close without notice if the owner is competing in a regatta. Though it has no view of the port, La Concordia on Via del Fondaco is a favorite of the locals. The restaurant at Hotel Splendido, high above the town, offers outdoor seating. ...will now sell five copies of The Three EPs by the Beta Band," announces John Cusack as the world-weary record store owner Rob in 'High Fidelity'. After he throws on the album's first track, "Dry the Rain," his face droops into an abstracted, too-cool-for-words expression and his head begins to nod appreciatively to the stately beat; soon the heads of self-conscious twenty something males all across his store do the same...

Even the new owner's chosen name - the Phoenix Consortium - seemed little more than wishful thinking for a company that hadn't turned a profit since 1994. But now the trimmed-down, reconfigured Rover is about to announce some surprising financial details: losses were cut to $424 million in the last fiscal year, and management expects to halve them this year en route to breaking even in 2002. Finally, some grudging respect is coming Phoenix...
