Died. Dr. Robert Seymour Bridges, 85 since 1913 Poet Laureate of England; after a short illness; at his home, Chilswell, Boar's Hill, Oxford. Son of a country 'squire, Etonian, Oxonian, he abandoned medicine for poetry at the age of 37 A classicist and inveterate prosodist, his appointment to succeed Laureate Alfred Austin amazed the literary world-Kipling, Yeats, Masefield, and Hardy were also regarded as candidates.
