Western missionaries cast an anxious eye toward the Middle East last week. Three hundred mission leaders representing 45 denominations met under the auspices of the National Council of Churches in Buck Hill Falls, Pa., heard reports that the British missionary effort in Egypt is "about finished" as a result of the British-French invasion. Two major British mission stations-about 25% of the total Protestant mission forces-have been closed. Some 60 British missionaries are under "protective custody" and will be expelled.
