GIRL BANDS GO DIGITAL Alanis Morissette and Courtney Love may be yesterday's news, but that hasn't stopped gamemakers from developing the first titles to cash in on female rock sensations. Um Jammer Lammy for the Sony PlayStation ($35) lets players tap their game pad in time with the beat of progressively more complex sounds. (It's harder than you think.) For more of a story line, Lego Friends ($30, available mid-September) lets girls six and up form their own virtual band, compose songs and try to win a competition. Rock...

...pilots follow one of two flight paths. The easier, safer route hugs the southern coast of Connecticut, keeping the plane within the comforting sight of land most of the time. The trickier one follows the line of Long Island, then sails out over water, passing only the relative lily pad of Block Island before reaching Martha's Vineyard. Kennedy chose the water route, and that may have been his undoing. Executives in the insurance industry, however, charge that doctors' motives are less altruistic. They say doctors, who by the A.M.A.'s own calculation have a median annual income of $164,000, are trying to pad their already cushy salaries. ...scariest part is that Kelley's efficiency is so quaintly low key. He's in the office from 9 to 6 (he's got to get home to his wife Michelle Pfeiffer and their two kids) and writes all his scripts with a Paper Mate on a yellow legal pad, usually finishing a first draft in two days. "He trusts himself creatively," says Steven Bochco, Kelley's mentor when he worked as a writer for L.A. Law. "He has pure talent, he has craft, and he has clearly found a way to tap into his imagination that doesn't take...
