Whatever you use, 10 or 15 minutes of stretching and back strengthening (stomach crunches and holding the pushup position for 10 seconds, for example) is a good idea. At the very least, it will keep you free of the pain that marred my early months in med school...

SCHOOL MONSTER No one really looks forward to the first day of school, but at least the Fact Monster www.factmonster.com can ease the pain. It's a funky, cartoon-style website for kids, with features like the math-themed Bug Splat game, a dinosaur quiz and a learned essay on the history of the lunch box. Oh, and it also has an almanac, an atlas, a dictionary and an encyclopedia. It's so cool that kids will forget it's educational...

...Bush has at least learned that lesson from his father - sympathize. The 1991 recession caught 41 having his own budget troubles, grappling with Reagan's deficits, and when he did talk about the recession he wasn't much for feeling people's pain - or doing much about it. Washington should stand back and "let the economy right itself," Bush the Elder used to say, occasionally, and it eventually did - just in time for him to lose the election to Clinton...
