...order. Their commanders advised Red guerrillas to lie low during the day, since "the marines always attack after first light." Last week Clement's operations officer, Major Marc Moore of Dallas, rounded up a fleet of helicopters and swooped in with a company of marines to hit a pair of Red-infested villages on the Ca De River a few minutes after midnight. Muzzle blasts flared in the jungle darkness, and the marines killed one Viet Cong and captured 30 others. Sour Rice. Was such a small haul worth the effort? No one could measure precisely the toll...
Astronomers now believe that they have penetrated the veil of clouds enveloping that mysterious lady Venus. In the Astrophysical Journal, a pair of planet watchers using the equipment at Caltech's Owens Valley Radio Observatory announced that they have made what is probably the first direct observations of the planet's surface, and found it, as expected, dry and extremely hot. They measured temperatures up to a maximum of 675°F. at the equator and a minimum of 300° at the poles -far too hot for any known form of life...
...agitators gathered on the campus and then marched through Berkeley to rally outside Crittenden's courtroom. They sang We Shall Over come, heard Cal professors criticize U.S. policy in Viet Nam and Savio complain about U.S. justice. Also on hand was Beat Poet Allen Ginsberg, who clanged a pair of tiny cymbals and mumbled an unintelligible, prayerlike chant. What was he trying to say? "That was a magic formula to soothe and calm the heart of the judge," Ginsberg explained...

Carroll also displayed six inches of thigh, a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses, and aplomb...
...rich in antihemophilic globulin (AHG), the protein that is lacking in the blood of hemophiliacs. Spun in a centrifuge, the protein can be concentrated further. Refrozen, it can be stored for relatively long periods in sterile plastic bags. Thus far the AHG concentrate, which is being prepared by a pair of San Francisco-area blood banks, has been used successfully on 14 patients in four California hospitals. Researchers may some day learn how to help hemophiliacs make their own AHG, perhaps through transplants of AHG-producing tissue. But until more is known about what tissues are involved in that process...
