Paresis, or general paralysis of the insane, is a hitherto incurable brain disease caused by the penetration of Spirochaeta pallida, the germ of syphilis, to the higher nerve centers, and has been the object of attack by many neurologists without marked success (TIME, April 28). Malaria germs have recently been used to combat it. Since 1919, 42 advanced cases were treated with tryparsamide, 21 of which are now discharged and restored to useful work, and four more have shown great improvement.
