...altarpiece itself is not spectacular. Certainly, it is visually pleasing—it is called the Beffi Triptych after the village for which it was painted, and narrates the lives of the Virgin Mary and Christ in an expressive and vibrant style. One panel depicts Christ’s nativity, another the death of the Virgin. Yet, this piece of art communicates numerous messages. It represents how— in a political world of words and numbers—a gesture can speak more loudly...

...many inmates as it was intended for. Many observers warn that increasing overcrowding is a serious threat in U.S. prisons as well. Reform advocates welcomed a judicial ruling earlier this month requiring California to reduce its prison population more than 25% over the next two years. A three-judge panel ordered the state to trim more than 40,000 inmates from its rolls because adequate medical care was unavailable to them, but the order also cited concerns over public safety. ...Administration had counted on Rangel's committee to be a key linchpin in its push for health-care reform - which would also rank as Rangel's crowning legislative achievement. It hasn't worked out that way, at least not yet. Deeply split along party lines, the Ways and Means panel has become a target for critics who say Obama has allowed congressional Democrats to turn health-care reform into a partisan enterprise that will raise taxes on the rich without controlling costs or solving many of the health-care system's biggest problems. The report says Britain's goal of fighting terrorists has been diluted by the competing aims of counterinsurgency, counternarcotics, protection of human rights and state-building. ...Bing's search results are presented somewhat differently than Google's. A Bing results page has two components: a left-hand navigation panel that lets users click on related or recent searches, and a center panel that groups the search results into what Bing deems logical categories. Search for Obama, for example, and you'll see results grouped into categories such as Obama news, Obama issues, Obama facts and Obama biography. Google does have a type of categorization in its "related searches" feature, but it's not nearly as prominent as what Bing's. Bing also has a handy video...
