...ourselves. We're handing out de facto life sentences here, and there should be some sort of civilian review." So Graham - who believes these procedures should be applied to the prisoners both at Guantánamo and in Afghanistan - has proposed a National Security Court, similar to the panel that adjudicates FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) cases. The proceedings would be closed, but civilian judges would have top-secret clearance to review all the evidence in every case brought before a military commission. That seems an eminently reasonable middle course...
...Last night, under new rules designed to stop this type of bloc voting, 50% of the points were awarded by the traditional public phone-in and 50% by a panel of music producers in each country. Advocates of the new jury system will be quick to say it helped Norway transcend borders - with a mix of fans and more objective industry experts voting, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia all awarded Norway the maximum 12 points, thereby snubbing one another. The upper limit of safety, according to the institute, is 2,000 IUs daily--too much can lead to, among other things, nausea and kidney stones--yet some vitamin-D proponents are pushing for up to 4,000 IUs a day for adults...
Beyond the praise, however, the exhibition also marks another milestone for disabled people everywhere. That point was explained most poignantly in early May during a panel discussion on the show. At the very end of the talk, one attendee summed it up: "This exhibition is landmark and revolutionary for many reasons.... I think that by being an artist with a disability, you are continuing the work of those people who fought...
