Incongruity aside, this first pan through the Ant Colony is sure to be the newest addition to the hall of mainstream animation fame. Like the Wildebeast stampede in The Lion King or the ballroom sequence in Beauty and the Beast it is difficult not to be enraptured by this visual tour of the capital of ant farms. As you'd expect, listening to Woody Allen complain about "never being able to lift more than ten times his body weight" is funny, but in Antz, it is the panorama that steals the show. Interestingly, this interracial-itis only seems to affect whites. Minorities are exempt; a charge that members of historically oppressed groups have "fetishes" slides off like butter on a hot Teflon-coated pan. It is our "get out of jail free" card, and I thought I had one of those cards until last summer. Now I am not so sure...

Airline deregulation, instituted in 1978, has reduced competition, with major hub cities like Atlanta and Minneapolis dominated by a single carrier, which can virtually dictate fares. American Airlines, which dominates the market from Miami to the Caribbean, cut fares drastically a couple of years ago, when a reconstituted Pan Am came on the scene; only hours after Pan Am shut down last February, American's fares shot up.
