...amusing to look over the accounts of Class Day that appeared in the Boston papers the next morning. One paper says that "nearly every one had invitations to more than one of these [spreads], and there was a constant passing to and fro, with a lively interchange of gossip and badinage, which was entered into with zest by both hosts and guests." We are told in another place that "there was the usual rush for the flowers, in which nearly every one received some blossoms, while not a few came off with bruises, which sent them limping off for liniments...
...Editor of the "Sporting Column" of this paper offers a prize racket to the best individual player at Lawn Tennis in the College proper, i. e. in the four classes of the academic course. A tournament will be held on the first four days of next week, from 3 to 6 P. M., provided ten men enter. The entrance-fee will be fifty cents, which will go toward partly paying for the prize. ...epithet "scurrilous," applied to the Yale News by one of its older contemporaries of the same place, seems, from the language of that paper with regard to our recent Freshman match with Yale, to be but little too strong. We are told "that there is no doubt that the bull-dozing policy pursued during the game affected the result," which is contradicted in the same sentence by the assertion that "no one. . . . can attribute the disastrous result to these causes." In the item column we are sarcastically told " the thanks of the College are due Harvard for the gentlemanly manner...

It is now a good-looking paper of nine columns; a size which prevents the publication of those prize essays and orations which appear to be so plentiful at the University of California.
