They have been kept standing too long. For the past ten years, rebellion has been smoldering in the south. Two southern political movements were formed in exile to demand independence from the north. From hideouts in the papyrus swamps and upland brush, guerrillas organized by still another group, a terrorist band known as the Anya Nya (Bad Medicine) began raids on government garrisons. Army reprisal from the north only increased the natives' hatred of the "slave catchers" and their "Arab occupation army." Offers of political integration were listened to politely by the southerners, only to be rejected...
Cheerful Sadism. The comics were a long time working up to Peanuts' special style and humor. Conscientious historians like to trace the strips back to Egyptian papyrus, Grecian ceramics, medieval tapestries, or Hogarth's illustrations of 18th century London lowlife; but as a matter of practical fact, the modern comics were not born until the New York newspaper circulation wars of the 1890s, in which crude but funny comics were valued for their hold on readers...

The Blue Nile dashes headlong down the rain-wreathed mountains from Lake Tana, smoking through unnavigable gorges and scouring tons of rich earth from the Ethiopian highlands. Where the two meet at Khartoum...
...fragments are magnificent, but too many of them are missing for a full reconstruction of the unlikely plot. The Menander fragments, the professor suspects, were discards from the library of a well-educated Egyptian, and their discovery gives the institute an incentive to go on with its papyrus hunt. There may be other gems of Greek literature wrapping the mummies of Ghoran's humble cemetery...
