Four Feathers (Paramount). Feature pictures of animal life in unfamiliar places have been fairly popular even when there was no story in them. It was natural that some producer should try to combine an authentic panorama of some wild continent with a romance of gallantry, love. Baboons getting away from a fire, with fast, soft paws and little eyes brightened by fear and a far flame's reflection; bull hippopotamuses lunging down to the water in the jungle morning, were photographed in North Africa by Producers Cooper and Schoedsack, who made Chang and Grass. Getting these scenes took a year...

...Studio Murder Mystery (Paramount). You know the leading man is going to be murdered because each member of the cast has a good reason for killing him and because you have read the title. This part of the picture is nicely constructed and told with some good shots of a Hollywood studio?the only ones that have come along for quite a while. It is doubtful whether the urbane, uproarious clowning of the four Marx brothers will seem funny in districts rural enough to admire the routine dance-numbers. Best shot: a wheel-ballet from overhead...

...Dangerous Woman (Paramount). When Adolph Zukor, president of Paramount Famous Lasky Corp., noticed the original title of this picture, The Woman Who Needed Killing, he called in advertising spreads which had cost a lot of money and renamed it himself. That any woman should need killing seemed to him an indictment of womanhood in general, perhaps of motherhood. Adolph Zukor would not stand for anything like that although he was probably forced to admit that Olga Baclanova, in this instance, acted badly. The wife of an Englishman in Africa, she flirted with her husband's friends and finally with...

This need for leisured intimacy has some bearing. I believe, on the question of the status of the director of vocational guidance. There is much discussion of the official standing of such a man and questions concerning his alliance with the faculty or with the Alumni Association are paramount. I believe that, whatever his standing, whether or not he be a member of the Faculty, he should not be surrounded by such a blaze of glory or honor that the humble fear to approach his throne or open their hearts to him. They must not be frightened by his title...
