Frank ("The Voice") Sinatra, patent-leather-lunged idol, opened a three-week engagement at Manhattan's mammoth Paramount Theater, got the usual screaming reception from 30,000 bow-tied, bobby-soxed fans, who caused such a commotion that the Police Department responded with 421 policemen, 20 policewomen, 20 patrol cars, two trucks. ...Christy Corp. When Paramount offered Nunnally Johnson his first Holly wood job, in 1932, he had ended more than a decade of newspaper work (on the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, the New York Herald Tribune, the New York Post) in order to devote all his time to fiction...
...Love a Soldier (Paramount) treats frivolously a not -altogether - frivolous theme. An enticing young shipyard worker (Paulette Goddard) spends her days welding metal ships, her nights welding soldiers' hearts. Meantime she clings to the notion that a young woman should consider it her duty to kiss the boys goodbye, but hardly ever do much else for them...
