...details are what's new and interesting anyway. Similarly, the beginning of the book is more interesting than its end, which is pretty much the Yokotastrophe you'd expect. When John was 5, his mom and dad separated. His father sat him down and made him choose which parent he would live with. At first he chose his father, but after his mother left, the desperate little boy went running up the street after her. That poignant image hints at the ineffable, aching heart of Lennon's creativity, and his cruelty too. You get the feeling John never really stopped...
...example, after much debate, the Census Bureau finally allowed respondents to identify all their racial groups on the 2000 Census. Even the common application for college admissions allows students to check more than one racial box. The mibrid is cheaper to make and has a small battery, which lightens the load. And diesel makes it more fuel efficient than a regular gasoline hybrid. Mercedes' parent company, DaimlerChrysler, says that its diesel hybrid is 10% to 15% more fuel efficient than a full gasoline hybrid. The company says it is "close to market" with the new vehicle. BMW is closer. The Bavarian company says it plans to introduce a type of mild hybrid system next year...
...reasonable studies of life in the Boston area now call for a living wage of $20 or more plus benefits. The Massachusetts Family Self-Sufficiency Standard is $20.85 for a parent with one child. The National Low-Income Housing Commission estimates $24.35 as the bare minimum. And the Economic Policy Institute says $28.03 is needed for a parent with two kids...
