...County, D'Alessandro's fouryear. "Contract for Success" program resulted in lower drop-out rates as well as increased test scores and parent participation. At the same time, D'Alessandro managed to cut the district budget by about $10 million...
...buying extra classroom materials is one thing; buying extra teachers is another. When directed toward items like staff salaries, educators say, private funds can widen the disparity between schools in poor neighborhoods that rely on government funds, and those in middle-class communities that can tap off-the-books parental money. Even some parent advocates got uneasy over the New York parents' brazenness. Overall, the musical is worth seeing, but only for the matinee price. The singing by both Mills and Talmadge is weak and unclear, leaving one constantly straining to hear them. Cohen notes some homeless advocates say they've witnessed a big upswing in shelter customers, but such anecdotal evidence does little to determine the true effects of the reforms...

Dow Chemical and Dow Corning are separate corporate entities, and Dow Chemical is not the "parent company" of Dow Corning. Rather, Dow Chemical and Corning Inc. are each 50% shareholders in Dow Corning, which formerly made breast implants. Dow Chemical is not now and never has been in the breast-implant business. It is also important to note that the Louisiana trial is only the third...
