Are you assuming that Rambo occupies the same role as Daniel Boone or Superman in children's fantasies and contributes in the same way to their moral and social development? If the historical trend toward more explicitly violent heroes is so benign, why have we seen such a dramatic increase in real violence in our society over the past several decades...
...Watching these stories, you would think we were a nation of single parent families, where only women wrestle with the challenges of balancing work and family, juggling roles, making ends meet in a grumpy economy. Whatever island the men live on, they apparently don't fret, don't agonize, don't judge each other and don't get drawn as cartoon characters like Working Dad who is depriving his kids vs. Stay At Home Dad who is obsessing over them...

Since most pediatricians regard the hubbub over the possible risks of vaccines as silly (which it may be) and the growing trend among some parents not to vaccinate as dangerous (which it almost certainly is), I'm sure those docs thought they were doing us hysterical moms a favor by fudging the truth.
