That's really too bad. On the basis of performance against other schools, Harvard is probably best in the spring. The Harvard crew, for example, is legendary. Coached by stone-countenanced and mysterious Harry Parker, the heavyweights have dominated the nation for years. The heavies finally lost their annual four-mile race with Yale in June for the first time in 19 years. (Rumors that crew alums subsequently left Parker alone in a room with a loaded pistol did not, however, prove accurate...
Richard Harris overacts as James Parker, Jane's adventure-monger father. But he really can't be blamed for that: Most of his interactions are with Jane, so Harris must cope with the unenviable task of bouncing his lines off Bo, which is like bouncing a casaba melon off cement. Nevertheless, he is successful at times, and provides the film's few entertaining moments. It is hard to say if Tarzan would have been a good movie even with a better actress playing Jane, somebody with style and grace. Julie Christie for instance, or (a few years ago) Katherine Hepburn...
...Parker L. Coddington, director of government relations for Harvard, said that despite the potential adverse effects of the tax cuts and spending reductions. Harvard officials must now cling to "one chief hope that the administration program does achieve its ends" in cutting inflation, increasing the Gross National Product, "and building a generally stronger economy, so that there will be money to give to places like Harvard...
...Major Michael Parker, 33, an antiques dealer and reserve officer, who says lightly: "I like burning things. I am a pyromaniac." Parker is the man directly in charge of what he says will be "the largest firework display in 250 years," a figure that roughly but deliberately recalls the pyrotechnic extravagance that celebrated the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1749. It was for that occasion that Handel composed his Music for the Royal Fireworks, which will also accompany the meteor shower of bombshells, flash reports, bombettes, pirouettes, Catherine wheels, saucissons, serpents and good old-fashioned detonations over Hyde Park...
...producer and star, and her husband John, as director and cinematographer, have basted together a new Tarzan, which the descendants of Author Edgar Rice Burroughs tried futilely to suppress. The story is familiar and faithful: Jane Parker (Bo) and her great white hunter father (Richard Harris) trek through the jungle and find the Ape Man (Miles O'Keeffe). But the plot is so much crinoline for Bo to shuck before cavorting au naturel with Tarzan or monkeying around with wildlife...
