Much experimentation but little actual practice has been made with mufflers for airplanes. One reason: engine mufflers are ordinarily of only partial value because as much as half the noise of an airplane is made by the whirling propeller (TIME, Oct. 27, 1930). But geared en- gines turn big, high-pitched propellers at low speeds. In such engines propeller noise is comparatively slight. Brothers, Last week Iron Age, whose subscribers are hard hit by the stoppage of railroad buying, said: "It is believed the railroads must follow whether they obtain partial relief through rate advances or not." The railroad Brotherhoods stoutly, even bitterly retorted that rail wages must stay up. It is in these Brotherhoods that U. S. Not only were there no runs, but for the first two or three days correspondents were proudly told that deposits were actually larger than withdrawals. German statesmen played their hand shrewdly. During the three weeks that Germany has been under partial moratorium the Government investigated every bank that seemed to be in serious trouble. Deposits of the closed Danat Bank were guaranteed. The Government bought 75%, of the stock of the great Dresdner Bank. As a last move to prevent runs 8% was promised on all new deposits. That...

...Subplots concern his romance with the niece of the rival hotelkeeper, the effects of right living on a case-hardened gambler and two thuggish assistants. Far from a great picture, perhaps not even a good one, Honeymoon Lane should continue to enrich its originator, to amuse cinemaddicts who are partial to bromidic comedy. Sample shots: Dowling trying to send a telegram while Ray Dooley kicks his head; the king carrying a suitcase upstairs; the thugs and an aide-de-camp wrestling for a piece of cherry...
