About 10 years ago, the Union Corse began to move into the U.S. to fill the vacuum created by the partial withdrawal of the Mafia from the narcotics racket. Its chief contact in the U.S. became Florida Gang Boss Santo Trafficante Jr., who traveled to Saigon and Hong Kong to work out narcotics deals with the Corsicans and later turned up in Ecuador to check out a cocaine network in which he had been offered a partnership. The Union Corse also supplied and financed the new gangs of South Americans, Puerto Ricans and blacks, who moved into the vacant territories...

...inflation effort of the summer has been the White House campaign to jawbone automakers into withdrawing proposed price increases ranging upward from $90 a vehicle. Last week the Cost of Living Council, which has been prodding the companies to shave their proposed increases, evidently decided to settle for a partial victory. It remained silent and thus tacitly accepted offers from General Motors and Ford to reduce the increase to $59 per car or truck. Despite the thoroughness and expertise of the team at Tan Son Nhut, there are occasionally partial remains that are impossible to identify positively. In these infrequent cases, despite continuing efforts at considerable risk to probe sites where American soldiers are believed or known to have been killed, complete recovery and final identification must wait until the cessation of hostilities...

...resorted to it anyway. The President opened a campaign to persuade automakers to cancel a proposed price boost on 1973-model cars, even though the increase seems justifiable under the guidelines of the Government's own Price Commission. By week's end he had won a partial victory. General Motors, whose price moves are usually followed by the other automakers, offered to trim its increases by more than a third, to an average $59 per car or truck. Ford soon followed suit, offering to roll back its price hike to $59 also...
