What should a student get out of college? Most people think that the liberal arts may be fine for their daughters, but that a son's education should be weighted toward training him "for a particular occupation or profession"-with the liberal arts secondary. One group who are inclined to reverse the order: college graduates themselves. But even with them, the liberal arts have no runaway; 44% of the grads prefer a liberal arts emphasis, 38% are for technical and professional emphasis, and 18% say "it depends" or have no opinion...

Paint One Blue. The next step is to estimate the distance by timing the round trip of an individual bee (a worker bee flies about 15 m.p.h,). To do this, one particular bee has to be marked. Hunter Edgell does it by selecting a bee which has worked its way into a cell of the comb and is relatively immune to outside distractions. Then he daubs its rear with blue paint (made from carpenter's chalk and water). On the next trip, the blue-bottomed bee stands out from its fellows...

Author Janeway showed a mildly original talent for characterization in a first novel (The Walsh Girls, TIME, Nov. 29, 1943). Her second (Daisy Kenyan, TIME, Nov. 19, 1945) was as confused as the neurotics she wrote about. The Question of Gregory shows no particular improvement and raises the question why writers are encouraged to churn out novels whose people are as unbelievable and basically as uninteresting as poor old John Gregory...
