...Shared passion for that $27 million treasure, largely paid for by Mokhtar's Islamic charity, the Al-Bukhary Foundation, has evolved into something much bigger in recent years. The bond now constitutes what is Malaysia's most important economic partnership. Mokhtar, a reclusive, 51-year-old multimillionaire, has in recent years gained the trust of the Prime Minister and been awarded a deluge of government contracts. Mokhtar now holds the reins of several key publicly listed companies previously controlled by the government, swelling his empire to include container ports, mines, hotels and oil palm plantations. The publicly traded companies...
...When officials in both countries hailed the arrests as a model for partnership in the war on terrorism, it was more than mutual back slapping. In breaking up an active al Qaeda sleeper cell, Moroccan authorities working with American counterparts staged one of the most successful counter-terrorism operations since Sept. 11. And besides preventing a possibly deadly al Qaeda attack, the police work revealed important - and disturbing - insights into how Osama bin Laden's operatives are regrouping for new terror operations despite their rout in Afghanistan. There will be no large promotional budgets, no appeals to commercial radio. Burnett is convinced...

If EchoStar wins approval to buy DirecTV's parent company, Hughes Electronics, TiVo may be squeezed out, because EchoStar stands to make more money off its proprietary box. EchoStar can also offer customers a price advantage: its subscribers don't have to pay additional subscription fees to use its PVRs...
...virtually created British India and the Empire, what's really surprising is that only the Chinese have chimed in. In the mid-1700s the company also ran a robust trade in Indian textiles, with a private army to defend its bases. "All this happened with Asian permission and Asian partnership," says curator Anthony Farrington. "And Asian complicity in the business of making money." But the balance of power tilted after the military exploits of Company man Robert Clive transformed the firm into a territorial power. From private trading rights and "presents" from the locals, Company employees became rich while bleeding...
