...reader may think, over the American college student, is the regulation that no one shall pursue separate courses of study until he has been at the university a year. No matter what his knowledge may be every man is obliged to wait a year before trying to pass his "Moderations," as they are called; then if successful, he is allowed to study "The Finals," or elective courses. Thus taking a three year's course instead of one of four years, is scarcely feasible or practicable...
...number. "Kansas Plantin" is a peculiar story and while being decidedly fanciful, is interesting and pleasing. "An Ethical Compromise" may be termed a story of "College Life" though we hesitate to believe that a Harvard professor could "conscientiously allow" such a matter as the story relates to pass unnoticed. ...pieces in a way which was entirely unwarranted. It was slovenly playing and it is for this alone that they deserve severe criticism. Princeton thoroughly outplayed them at every point and her victory was clearly earned. Wight then had the pole and was slightly in the lead; Endicott tried repeatedly to pass him but did not succeed until the last curve when he made a final spurt and won by a few feet. Just at the finish Bardeen overtook S. H. Bunnell who fell...
Some men in the Law School have organized a scrub team to pass under the name of "The Barristers." It starts with material which promise to make a good combination. Among other candidates are Newman and Jordan, formerly well known fielders on the Bowdoin nine, Watrous of the Northwestern University nine, McNichol of the St. John's nine, and Chamberlain who is captain and an old Exeter player. Goodwin '95 and Hickey '93 will be the regular battery and the rest of the nine will be made up of Worman '95 and Paine formerly first baseman on the Haverhill team...
