...Harvard women’s soccer team has seen its fair share of stellar freshman pass through the program. Two years ago, it was now-junior forward Erin Wylie, who led the team in goals, and two-time captain and fellow third-year defensemen Nikki Rhodes, who anchored the defense that year, stepping to the forefront. Last year, a talented group led by sophomores Lizzy Nichols and Christian Hagner, provided a bright spot to an otherwise desolate year for the Crimson. This year, it is just more of the same. And at the top of her class rests freshman striker...
WORCESTER—Returning seven starters from last year’s standout defense, Harvard was supposed to be able to put pressure on Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph. Unfortunately for the Crimson, supposed to only goes so far. The pass rush only managed to get through the Crusaders’ offensive line a handful of times, as Randolph moved with ease, rolling out of the pocket as well as running the option. “That kid doesn’t get sacked,” Harvard coach Tim Murphy said. “I mean, he just throws...
WORCESTER—It was the kind of homecoming heroics usually reserved for Hollywood, but Dominic Randolph’s 52nd pass of the day hit an open Thomas Harrison streaking down the right sideline in perfect stride, and the Holy Cross receiver tiptoed the remaining few feet into the end zone just before a Harvard defender could arrive. The eruption from the home side, and the jubilation of the players on the field, was easily understood—the Randolph-to-Harrison connection with just 19 seconds remaining gave Holy Cross a 31-28 win on Homecoming...
...Akpan chested in the go-ahead score to lift the Crimson to a 1-0 lead. The unorthodox goal ended a chaotic scramble in front of the Minutemen net that saw co-captain Matt Hoff tip a ball to Akpan, who used his chest to redirect the pass just inside the near post. After another 10 minutes ran off the clock, Harvard struck again. This time, it was sophomore Brian Grimm who fired the shot heard ’round the field. His long, low blast from 30 yards out eventually ensured a loss for Massachusetts...
...result, the tide of the match changed in the Crimson’s favor, with the ball remaining on the Wisconsin-Milwaukee end of the field as the half came to a close. After 39 minutes, Harvard’s efforts finally paid off. Freshman Katherine Sheeleigh corralled a long pass from the midfield, and after beating her defender, she set up sophomore Devon Sherman at the top of the box. Sherman threaded a beautiful ball into the left side of the box that Wideroff was able to finish off with a sprawling slide that beat the keeper to the ball...
