...G.O.P. voters don't know enough about McCain to have either a good or a bad opinion of him, according to the TIME/CNN poll. To fix that, the McCain videotaped biography has been mailed to party activists, and the TV-commercial version has been airing for the past two weeks. There is some evidence that Bush support in the state is soft. Among those who picked "W" or other candidates, 43% say they are open to supporting the Arizona Senator...
...tick bite. That's a lot better than the current four to six weeks. The new test (not yet widely available, alas) detects antibodies to Lyme bacteria before they build up in the blood. That means patients can get on antibiotics sooner. Another benefit: the test can distinguish between past infections, which may not require medication, and new ones, which...
...they are afraid to be quoted by name--tell a different story. They say that Morris, who traces his roots and tactics back to the Molly Maguires, the fierce coal miners who waged violent battles against mineowners in the 1870s, has become increasingly erratic and violent over the past few years. Teamster officials say Morris' men have told them the weapons were being readied to disrupt the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia next July. In fact, it's almost undifferentiated white noise, as if the band were content to echo the roar of its crowd. This CD has a few intriguing moments of raw energy. Still...
...past few Woody Allen films have flirted, in a provocatively meanspirited way, with the public aspects of his personality. Deconstructing Harry focused on Woody the selfish lover, Celebrity on Woody the capricious star. The new one has reverbs of Woody's Monday-night gigs in a classical jazz ensemble. Sweet and Lowdown is about one sour fellow, but it's another character who gives this minor movie a surprising lilt and afterglow...
