Screening for breast tumors is a bit like searching for a penny in a sandstorm. Radiologists look for specks of calcium no bigger than a grain of sand; in a certain pattern, the specks could indicate a tumor. The dense tissue of the breast, particularly in younger women, makes it difficult to isolate these spots on fixed X-ray film, so it's not surprising that doctors reading mammograms pick up only about 85% of the tumors that are there...
...Toniolo: Unfortunately, at this point, only using oral contraceptives and having more pregnancies are thought to reduce risk of ovarian cancer. Oral contraceptives because they regulate hormones, and pregnancies because while a woman is pregnant, her ovaries are in a sort of holding pattern, which is ultimately healthy. On a day-to-day basis, women should avoid using talc-based "feminine" products as well...
Brett Herbst designed his first cornfield maze in 1996 in American Fork, Utah. It drew 18,000 people in its first three weeks. Now he designs mazes around the country for about $30,000 apiece. Weather permitting, of course. A bad season can thwart plans and turn the maze into a bust...

Other nicknames are being overheard at photo ops, D.C. dinners and Cabinet meetings. While Bush's method appears scattershot, we have--eureka!--discerned a pattern to the moniker madness...
Mornings in the mountains tend to dawn bright and clear, while afternoons often bring rain?a weather pattern that compels hikers to start early and pitch their tents before bad weather sets in. From Chilai Ridge the long trek down winds through bamboo forests and the tiny aboriginal settlement of Tianshih. From there, follow a 10-km trail to a logging road that leads to the town of Lushan. It's important to be met at the trail head: the walk down the road to Lushan is daunting. The Chilai Ridge hike takes three days and three nights...
