...Paula Radcliffe used to be the pluckiest loser on the track. Knowing only one way to run - at the front - made her a favorite with the fans but for 10 years failed to win her major titles. After leading the 10,000-m races from the gun at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and at the World Championships in Edmonton last year, she was overtaken in the home straight to take fourth in each. The British runner was, though, successful off the track - winning world half-marathon and cross-country titles for the past two years. This year her track results...

The gain prompted the Scheid's to stop sulking over their sunken stocks and focus on building wealth through real estate...

...scuttled by new management after the merger that created AOL Time Warner (which owns TNT and TIME). This year Bravo bought all 13 episodes--at a deep discount. But despite being shot before 9/11, Ashleigh Banfield's dye job, Greta Van Susteren's eye job and Paula Zahn's "zipper" ad, News doesn't play like old news. Like E.R., whose frenzied pace it emulates, News nails the jargon and the adrenaline rush of its subject. And the series pays admirable attention to the dangers of synergy-spawned conflicts of interest and corporate meddling in today's merger-mad media...
