He graduated from Harvard in 1854 and, after completing his theological studies, was ordained a deacon in 1857 and a priest, in Boston, the following year. He began his work in St. Paul's Church, Boston, and served successively in churches in Portland, Me., Litchfield, Conn., and Geneva, N. Y.
