After selling 500 million PCs over the past 20 years, the computer industry is seeing sales decline for the first time ever. Before Sept. 11, research firm IDC was predicting unit shipments in 2001 would slide 6.3% from last year, to 45.3 million, and the terrorist attacks could push fall sales down further.
