...Telecom T1, a video-game team whose 20 members practice and live together in two shared luxurious apartments in a skyscraper in Seoul's financial district. For some 350 days a year, the young men wake at 10 a.m, jog for an hour, and then hit their computers or PCs, taking an hour off for lunch and another for dinner, and finally calling it a day at 3 a.m. (The gamers claim they play at their best just after midnight.) They don't spend much time outside their building, and when they do leave, it's normally only...

...mobile devices are getting better. As if BlackBerrys and Treos weren't hard enough to put down, Apple will start selling the iPhone in June, and the new category of ultra-mini PCs like the FlipStart and the OQO2 is threatening to make computers as portable as cell phones. Two, wi-fi is becoming ubiquitous. Google and Earthlink have a deal in place to supply all of San Francisco with free wireless Internet access. Encryption wasn't the biggest problem in creating Joost. The primary puzzle was piecing together a network powerful enough to stream near DVD-quality, full-screen video to millions of computers simultaneously. The other reason is that Vista is ... pretty good. It's not a disgrace, and it's not a masterpiece. It's not worth buying a new machine for Vista, and there's no reason to switch to it if you use a Mac, but it gets the job done. Not the stuff of which great headlines are made...

...iPhone started out the way a lot of cool things do: as something completely different. A few years ago, Steve Jobs noticed how many development dollars were being spent--particularly in the greater Seattle metropolitan area--on what are called tablet PCs: flat portable computers that work with a touch screen instead of a mouse and keyboard. Jobs, being Jobs, was curious. He had some Apple engineers noodle around with a touch screen. When they showed him what they came up with, he got excited...
