...Israelis reached Suez city in the third week of the war. They dug in south of the city and set up observation posts on a 600-ft. peak of the Ataka range. From there they surveyed and controlled the entire Bay of Suez area. Since the war ended there have been occasional artillery and armor skirmishes. In the past two weeks, however, when it became apparent that the Israelis would be leaving, the shooting stopped and both sides went fishing...
...Shows. The Government probably will also clamp down on no-shows. As schedules have tightened, passengers have hedged their reservations by making multiple bookings. At some airlines, no-show rates have doubled during peak periods. American has 18,000 no-shows a day, and United counts more than 22,000-10% to 15% of their capacities. The CAB'S remedy may be to require passengers to pay for tickets up to four weeks in advance and then charge penalties of $25 to $100 to passengers who miss their flights. About a month after they had detected methyl cyanide molecules in the comet's head, radio astronomers atop Kitt Peak last week reported picking up the "signature" of hydrogen cyanide molecules in radio waves from Kohoutek. The discovery has dual significance. Both molecules have been found in the clouds of gases and dust in the vast reaches between the stars; thus their presence in the comet lends strong support to the theory that comets were formed from the same interstellar material out of which the solar system...
BECAUSE DYLAN emerged during the peak of the civil rights movement and began to hit his stride at the time of such breakthroughs as the Berkeley Free Speech Movement, his pacifism and libertarianism were automatically identified with the left. Those were friendly days when whites still worked with SNCC and the distinction between political and cultural radicalism was hazy. Singing songs then seemed a political act --if enough people sang, blacks would withdraw have social equality, U.S. soldiers would withdraw from Vietnam. Smoke-ins looked like acts of political defiance and demonstrations liberated the spirit as much as they dramatized...
