Yankelovich's study, published in 1981, captures the theology of the revolution at its peak. Future historians of the movement, in fact, may set the years of sexual revolt at roughly 1965 to 1975. Since the mid-'70s, according to some small surveys, the revolution has decelerated or reached a plateau. One such study shows that rates of premarital intercourse for students at the University of California at Davis rose sharply to 62% by 1977 and then increased to only 64% by 1981. Said Ann Clurman, a vice president at Yankelovich, Skelly & White: "In the latter part of the decade...

...Though most analysts in the field would not go that far, studies tend to agree that changes in male premarital sexual behavior since the '30s have been rather modest. Premarital sex rates for women more than doubled between the 1930s and 1971, and sharply rose again to a new peak...

...glade, Reinado, dressed in camouflage fatigues, held court. "The leaders say different things in front of the people and then different things in the back of the people," he began, angrily waving his rifle. His bodyguards fidgeted nervously as an Australian Black Hawk helicopter thudded away over a distant peak. In a rambling - at times incomprehensible - conversation, Reinado accused the Australian government of installing Ramos-Horta as a puppet to preside over the oil-fuelled economy, said he feared his life was under threat by supporters of the leftist Fretilin party who still sought to rule the country, and claimed...

Last summer Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock, Mass., became the first ski area to install its own wind turbine; nearly half the resort's energy needs are provided by the 1.5-MW tower. Producing its own energy also allows the resort to shield guests from higher room rates caused by rising electricity prices. At Vermont's Killington Resorts, the diesel-powered snowmaking compressors are being replaced with low-emission machines, which should reduce emissions 50% next year. Buck Hill Ski Area in Burnsville, Minn., buys enough wind power to run 85% of its operations. And Mammoth Mountain in California...
