Died. Walter Edwin ("The Professor") Peck, 62, onetime authority on English poets, turned leading intellectual of Manhattan's Bowery; of a heart attack; after he was found in a snow-filled Bowery doorway. Educated at Hamilton and Columbia, he got his Ph.D. at Oxford, became an assistant professor at Hunter College. In 1929, after winning critics' acclaim with a two-volume biography of Shelley, Professor Peck saw his academic career blow up in a tabloid scandal.
